Shehbaz, Starmer vow to further strengthen Pak-UK ties
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
The two leaders agreed to further strengthen bilateral ties, particularly in the areas of trade and investment.
During the meeting, PM Sharif briefed his British counterpart on Pakistan’s current economic situation and the government’s efforts to boost economic growth. He highlighted recent tax reforms implemented by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) aimed at expanding the country’s tax base.
The discussion also touched on the challenges Pakistan faces due to climate change. The PM explained the adverse effects of environmental changes on the country and called for global cooperation to address these pressing issues.
He also emphasized Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, noting that terrorism is a global threat that requires collective action from the international community.
Highlighting the UK as the third-largest investor in Pakistan, Shehbaz discussed available investment opportunities and projects, encouraging greater collaboration. He also acknowledged the crucial role of the Pakistani diaspora in the UK in contributing to the development of both nations, and expressed a desire to strengthen people-to-people ties.
The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to promoting mutually beneficial relations across multiple sectors.
