Virat Kohli ruled out of Afghanistan ODI series with injury
Indian batting icon Virat Kohli has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan after suffering a hamstring injury, a BCCI source confirmed to PTI.
The three-match series is set to begin on June 13 in Dharamsala, with matches also scheduled in Lucknow on June 17 and Chennai on June 20.
Big blow for India’s top order
Kohli’s absence is a significant setback for India, as the veteran batter has been in excellent form recently.
The 37-year-old played a key role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s successful IPL campaign, where he amassed 675 runs, including a century and five half-centuries, helping his team secure back-to-back titles.
IPL heroics before injury setback
In the IPL final against Gujarat Titans, Kohli also contributed by finishing the match, further highlighting his strong form heading into the international series.
Despite his age, Kohli has continued to maintain elite fitness levels and remains one of the most consistent performers in world cricket.
Questions remain over the availability of India captain Rohit Sharma, who is also recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during the IPL.
His participation in the full series against Afghanistan will depend on his fitness clearance.
Kohli and Rohit’s recent absence from Test cricket has fueled speculation about their long-term ODI future, especially with the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup in South Africa on the horizon.
Selectors are expected to monitor their form and fitness closely as India builds toward the next global tournament.
