Tyson Fury has explained he licked Deontay Wilder’s blood from his neck to “see what his prey tasted like”.
The Brit dominated Wilder during their rematch 12 months ago before stopping the American in the seventh round.
And in the penultimate session, cameras picked up Fury licking Wilder’s neck while they were in the clinch.
And Fury told ESPN: “In a pre-fight interview I said I would taste Deontay Wilder’s blood this time.
“I had an opportunity in round six so I had to taste his blood to see what my prey would taste like.
“I was the hunter that night; I was the lion and he was the gazelle and I took him down.
“The animal instincts come out inside the boxing ring, it’s either him or you.”
Fury had been denied victory in his first fight with Wilder when the judges controversially scored the bout a draw.
But he made no mistake in the sequel as he inflicted a first defeat on his opponent.
The planned trilogy fight was pencilled in for first July 11 and then October 3 before it was delayed until December.
Fury then walked away from the bout when a date could not be agreed in 2020 and is now set to take on fellow world champion Anthony Joshua this summer instead.
He added: “I should have boxed [in December] because I’ve been so inactive.
“I’ve been out for over a year and by the time I fight again – we’re looking at June if this Joshua fight happens – it will have been a year and six months out of the ring.
“You can never beat being match fit and being out regularly, but I don’t make excuses.
“I had three years out of the ring and came back to beat his a** so surely I can come back and beat Anthony Joshua with one hand behind my back with 16 months out of the ring.”
