Fury then walked away from the bout when a date could not be agreed in 2020 and is now set to take on fellow world champion Anthony Joshua this summer instead.

He added: “I should have boxed [in December] because I’ve been so inactive.

“I’ve been out for over a year and by the time I fight again – we’re looking at June if this Joshua fight happens – it will have been a year and six months out of the ring.

“You can never beat being match fit and being out regularly, but I don’t make excuses.

“I had three years out of the ring and came back to beat his a** so surely I can come back and beat Anthony Joshua with one hand behind my back with 16 months out of the ring.”
