In reaction to Peruvian demonstrators, President Castillo enforces a curfew in Lima

Peruvian President Pedro Castillo has imposed a curfew in the capital, Lima, and the seaside city of Callao, following significant protests over rising gasoline and fertilizer costs.

The administration stated on Sunday that the fuel tax would be temporarily withdrawn in order to keep gasoline prices consistent.

However, lorry drivers and farmers once again stopped roadways across the country on Monday.

Four people have died as a result of the protests, according to the government.

President Castillo declared the curfew following a meeting with his Council of Ministers.

In Lima and Callao, he also declared a state of emergency, suspending certain rights like as the right to free assembly and association.
