The EU will decide on Pakistan’s GSP+ status beyond 2023

Pakistan’s GSP+ (Generalized Scheme of Preferences – ‘GSP+’) status with the European Union is up for renewal in 2024, and NGOs, academics, trade unions, and civil society organizations in the country continue to be critical of compliance with even the most basic principles on which the GSP+ status was granted by the EU.

According to an article on Geopolitica.info, despite the lack of compliance, the EU has not discontinued the GSP+ scheme and its benefits.

The GSP+ scheme, according to Valerio Fabbri, is intended to incentivize social and environmental conditions in support of Islamabad’s attempts to uplift the disadvantaged. The EU keeps a close eye on compliance by concentrating on the issue of bound workers.
