Prime Minister completes the federal cabinet portfolios.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a 25-member federal cabinet on Sunday, with 14 sectors reserved for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and 11 for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and other government partners.
PM Shehbaz, who has been running a one-man show since taking office, hashed out the terms of the portfolio distribution in conjunction with the PML-N government’s coalition partners.
Officials from the PML-N stated a formal announcement and oath-taking would take place on Monday (today).
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, among others, was expected to take over the foreign ministry portfolio and become the next foreign minister, according to sources.
Initially, it was speculated that the PPP chairman might not join PM Shehbaz’s cabinet, but various PPP leaders have already confirmed that he will be the foreign minister.
They speculated that in addition to the federal minister, the cabinet could comprise state ministers, advisors, and special aides. They also stated that the new federal cabinet, as announced by the premier, should be completed within the next week or two.
According to sources familiar with the situation, the PML-N was in charge of the finance, interior, information, defense, commerce, energy, planning, and petroleum portfolios, among others.
After being appointed as the premier’s aide, former finance minister Miftah Ismail is anticipated to become the country’s new finance minister.
