France is in approval of penalties against Russian oil imports.

According to reports released Tuesday, France’s Economy Minister, Bruno Le Maire, favors limitations on Russian oil.

“When you see what’s happening in the Donbas, it’s more important than ever to avoid importing Russian oil,” he stated.

According to Le Maire, oil is the country’s primary source of revenue. Extending sanctions would make it more difficult to fund the Ukrainian conflict.

Other European countries were being persuaded by France to stop importing Russian oil.

However, according to Le Maire, the countries are reticent to do so.

“The reason we haven’t gotten there yet isn’t because France doesn’t want it,” added Le Maire. “It’s because there are still certain European partners who are hesitant,” says the author.
