General Bajwa addresses ‘national security.’
General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the Chief of Army Staff, met with newly-elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday at the latter’s official house in Islamabad, according to a statement from the PM House.
It was the army chief’s first visit to Shehbaz after the latter’s election as prime minister.
Professional topics relevant to national security were covered during the discussion, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Following the fall of Imran Khan as Prime Minister on April 9, Shehbaz was elected the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan on April 11 when 174 MPs voted in his favor.
The COAS did not attend Shehbaz’s oath-taking ceremony because he was ill, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Major General Babar Iftikhar.
