Julia Roberts reveals why she hasn’t done a romantic comedy.
In a recent interview, Julia Roberts stated that she considers herself a homemaker, which explains why she hasn’t appeared in a romantic comedy in 20 years.
While speaking with The Upcoming York Times about her new series Gaslit, the actor was surprised to learn that she hasn’t made a romcom in a long time.
The Notting Hill star said, “I consider myself a homemaker.” “It can’t be 20 years, can it?” says the narrator. Here’s the thing: I would have done something if I had thought it was good enough.”
“But I also had three kids in the last 18 years,” the 54-year-old mother of three explained. This raises the bar even higher because it’s no longer just a question of ‘Is this stuff good?’ It’s also a math equation including my husband’s work schedule, the school schedules of my children, and summer vacation. It’s not as simple as saying, “Oh, I think I want to do this.”
Roberts went on to claim that she wasn’t avoiding romantic comedies on purpose, but that she couldn’t find anything she liked to do.
The actor married cinematographer Daniel Moder in 2002. The couple’s three children are Phinnaeus and Hazel, 17-year-old twins, and Henry, a 14-year-old boy.
Roberts’ political thriller series with Sean Penn will premiere on April 24, 2022, and her new romantic comedy Ticket to Paradise, starring George Clooney and directed by Roberts after a 20-year break, will debut in October 2022.
