Katie Taylor shares how Roy Keane helped her recover from her “lowest point” in her career.

Katie Taylor has said that a phone call from her “absolute idol,” Roy Keane, helped her get out of her “lowest time” in boxing.

The Irish lightweight defends her united belts against Amanda Serrano on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. She is a professional boxer with a 20-0 record.

However, in her final amateur battle, the Irish boxer was defeated by Mira Potkonen of Finland in the quarter-finals of the women’s lightweight class at the 2016 Olympics.

Taylor had been attempting to defend her gold medal from London 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, and confesses she was “heartbroken” by her setback.

Despite this, a phone call from fellow former Republic of Ireland football player Keane lifted her spirits following a painful last-eight elimination.
