Hamza will not be CM if elections are not held, according to Speaker Pervaiz Elahi.
LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi stated on Saturday that Hamza Shehbaz cannot be acknowledged as chief minister because an election was never held and the governor rejected Usman Buzdar’s resignation.
In a press conference following Hamza Shehbaz‘s inauguration as Punjab Chief Minister, he asked, “How could Hamza Shehbaz be approved as chief minister since the election never took place?”
Pervaiz Elahi, the other contender in the chief minister race, said he was beaten at the request of Hamza Shehbaz. He also stated that the election is not held from the gallery of the legislature.
He went on to say that the current circumstance has thrown the province into a constitutional crisis.
“The president [of Pakistan] will not remain mute about what occurred with the governor,” added the speaker. “There will be no government in a few days,” he asserted.
Elahi stated that the governor’s residence was taken in the early hours by the chief secretary and the IG police, which he would examine.
