Billy Sharp of Sheffield United required stitches after a nasty attack.
Following the incident, a guy was arrested on suspicion of assault.
Nottingham Forest’s Brice Samba was the hero in the Championship play-off final at Wembley, save three penalties in the shootout.
The evening, however, was ruined by a despicable attack on Blades striker Sharp, 36, who was standing nearby watching the festivities.
Just seconds after the penalties, Sky Sports filmed a yob charging full speed towards Sharp and headbutting him to the ground.
Paul Heckingbottom, an enraged United manager, said: “It’s an attack. One of our players has been assaulted.” He’s shaken, hurting, and enraged.
“We’re seeing items thrown on the pitch and things that are thrown on that put players’ health and safety in peril, and nothing is ever done about it,” Heckingbottom continued. There will be action taken in this regard. We’ve witnessed and are aware of what has occurred. Without a doubt, there is a prison sentence there.
Sharp required sutures as a result of the heinous incident, according to a club representative.
“How can you go to work, minding your own business, and be abused in that manner?”
It’s completely out of sequence, and everything is wrong. We hear people decry it all the time, yet nothing is done about it. We were the ones who were hurt. “It’s upsetting for a variety of reasons, but I’m not going to go into detail. “I’ll deal with him.”
“A 31-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with this incident,” Nottinghamshire Police stated. Officers will question him while he is still in detention. Our investigation into the incident’s circumstances is still ongoing. We’ve spoken with the player in question, and we’re working with both teams to help us with our inquiry.”
