TTP extends ceasefire till May 30 as Afghan talks continue.
TTP spokesman Mohammad Khurasani said the truce will last until May 30 in a statement sent to the media via WhatsApp.
“Talks between the TTP’s committees and the Pakistani government are ongoing,” he added in the statement, adding that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan — the Afghan Taliban — was mediating between the two sides.
On May 13 and 14, a 32-member delegation from the Mehsud tribe in South Waziristan and a 16-member committee from the Malakand division met with the TTP, according to Khurasani.
“In light of the current talks, the committees urged for a ceasefire by both parties.” As a result, both parties have declared a truce until May 30 in response to the demand,” he stated.
The Afghan Taliban confirmed the Kabul discussions, with government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claiming the Islamic Emirate acted as a mediator.
He announced “great progress” in the talks in a series of Pashto tweets, as well as the agreement on a ceasefire.
“In good faith, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is working to forward the process. We hope that all parties will be flexible and accommodating “he remarked.
