A solar project in Braintree intends to power 12,000 houses.

For agricultural land in Essex, a solar farm large enough to power 12,000 households is being proposed.

British Solar Renewables intends to build around 50 hectares (120 acres) of property north of Belchamp St Paul, near Braintree.

Braintree District Council is in talks with the firm regarding the farm, which would have a capacity of 50MW.

The location would last 40 years before reverting to arable use.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, if accepted, it may result in two major solar farms being erected within around 1.8 miles (3km) of one other after approval was granted in 2020 for a 22MW solar farm on land near Pentlow Hill.
