A Popasna refugee discovers looted goods on a Russian tank.

In a recent photo, a Ukrainian refugee in the UK says she recognizes items apparently looted from her house sitting on top of a Russian tank.

According to Alina Koreniuk, the box in the photo contains a new boiler she planned to install before the war began.

Her children and she left Ukraine on April 8 and are currently staying with a British couple in Nottinghamshire.

The image, taken in late May, shows the tank driving past bombed-out residential buildings in Popasna.

Since May 8, Russian forces have held control of the town in the Luhansk region.

Ms Koreniuk claims the photograph was taken on a street just five minutes away from her home.

“He asked me if I saw anything strange about this photo,” she told.

Aside from the boiler, she says the tank also contains a tablecloth from the family’s summer house, new Disney bed sheets for her children, and a red blanket.

Ms Koreniuk added that the bed linen was used to cover something, most likely a TV or other electronic equipment that had been left at the house when they were forced to leave.

But what had happened had not surprised her.

“Our first thought was that whatever they hadn’t destroyed, they’d steal,” she explained.

“We anticipated that houses in Popasna would be looted.”
