Two children were heartbroken after their £5,200 family vacation was cancelled while they waited in line.

On Saturday, Anna Saunders, 41, flew from Stansted Airport to Cyprus with her husband Matthew, 44, and two children.

It was the first time they’d been able to get away since the Covid-19 pandemic, but they were dealt a bitter blow when TUI cancelled their vacation via text message.

The family was initially told that their flight had been delayed, but they soon learned that the entire trip had been cancelled due to “operational reasons.”

Anna stated that her children, Eva and Jack, ages 13 and 10, were devastated by the loss.

This half-term, they are instead staying in a friend’s caravan in Cromer, Norfolk. “My kids were heartbroken,” Anna, a property worker, told Wales Online. It’s difficult to explain to a child that they’re not going on vacation after passing through the airport. I’d be hesitant to book with TUI again.” It wasn’t what we were expecting. They must have realized they couldn’t make the holiday. It’s disgusting that we didn’t find out about the flight cancellation until we arrived at the airport.”

TUI offered Anna’s family a full refund, compensation of £350 per person, and a holiday voucher worth £200 per person in a text message.

Anna, from Bedfordshire, said her family had travelled with TUI on several occasions with no major issues.
