Meghan Markle ‘couldn’t hack’ royal life and ‘didn’t anticipate that it was difficult,’ a royal commentator has said.
Andrew Morton likened the Duchess of Sussex being in the royal family to trying to climb Mount Everest ‘in flip flops’.
The royal expert, speaking to ToDiForDaily’s Kinsey Schofield about his latest book, Elizabeth & Margaret The Intimate World of the Windsor Sisters, said about Meghan: “She just couldn’t hack it. She didn’t anticipate that it was difficult.
“It was like trying to climb Everest without ropes and without boots.
“It was like trying to climbs Everest in flip-flops.”
Mr Morton said he thinks Kate Middleton struggled in the early days as well and said it ‘took her a long time’ to be in command of her position.
Meghan Markle has previously admitted she went into marrying Prince Harry “naively”.
The Duchess of Sussex said in her Oprah Winfrey interview the only time the “penny dropped” of what she was getting into was when the Queen made an impromptu stop by yo the then-new couple and the Duke asked her if she knew how to curtsey.
Meghan told Oprah that she “didn’t do any research” about royal customs, and said she had “never” looked at her husband online.
She said when she got involved with Harry she “didn’t fully understand” what being a working royal meant.
“Thank God I didn’t know a lot about the family,” she said in the interview.
“Thank God I hadn’t researched. I would’ve been so in my head about it.”
Meghan has also said she was given no formal training on how to be a royal.
She admitted she googled the words to the National Anthem in a bid to make the family “proud” when she first joined them.
The Duchess of Sussex said she was committed to making her new role as a royal a success and wanted to prove to her new family that she was dedicated.
Meghan told Oprah: “I wrote letters to his family when I got there saying, ‘I am dedicated to this, I’m here for you, use me as you’d like.’
“There was no guidance as well and there were certain things that you couldn’t do, but you know, unlike what you see in the movies, there’s no class on how to speak, how to cross your legs, how to be royal.
“There’s none of that training that might exist for other members.”
