The next iPhone could be the last to use Apple’s signature charging wire.
Apple has opposed the switch to USB-C, which is used by the majority of recent devices.
However, it appears that the company is finally ready to take the plunge.
According to Ming-chi Kuo, a well-known iPhone specialist, the update could occur with the iPhone 15 in 2023.
According to him, the “iPhone will ditch Lightning port and swap to USB-C port” is the most recent indicator.
“USB-C in hardware designs could boost iPhone’s transfer and charging speed,” he tweeted, “but the final standard details still depend on iOS support.”
“It’s believed that Apple’s ecosystem’s existing USB-C-related providers (e.g., IC controller, connection) will become the market’s leading suppliers.”
Apple has already made the switch to USB-C on its iPads.
It can also be found on Macbooks.
However, the company has been under pressure in recent years to transfer iPhones across as well.
The EU has been considering new laws requiring IT firms to use the same port standard, claiming that this will reduce the number of wires jammed into drawers.
Since 2012, Apple has used the lightning port on iPhones.
It’s much smaller than its predecessor, with only eight pins instead of thirty.
Apple has complete control over the lightning cable, and if the claim that they’re considering a transition is true, Apple will be allowing competitors to enter the market.
