PTI signals support for 28th Amendment over Imran Khan’s release

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has indicated that it could consider the proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment if it offers a way to secure the release of party founder Imran Khan, although no formal decision has been made.

Speaking to the media outside Parliament, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said the party’s parliamentary group had expressed confidence in its entire leadership and that its recommendations would be forwarded to both opposition leaders for guidance on the way forward.

Gohar clarified that the proposed 28th Amendment was neither discussed as part of the parliamentary party meeting’s agenda nor put to a vote. He said the party’s next course of action would be determined in consultation with the opposition leaders, adding that their guidance would shape future decisions.

However, PTI Senator Barrister Ali Zafar indicated that some members had expressed conditional support for considering the amendment if it could help secure Imran Khan’s release.

Speaking to Samaa TV, Zafar said some members had suggested that if the proposed amendment provided a way forward for the PTI founder’s release, the party should consider it.

“If anything can be done for the founder within the context of the 28th Amendment, it certainly should be done,” Zafar said, explaining the position expressed by some members.

He reiterated that no decision had been reached and no voting had taken place during the parliamentary party meeting. His remarks indicated that the possibility was being discussed, rather than reflecting a formally adopted party position.
