A mum says she “didn’t have the heart” to point out her husband’s mistake when he proudly fitted the ‘artificial grass’ he picked up on eBay in their garden.
Pauline Tremble and her husband Andy had purchased the material online after Andy had spotted the ‘bargain’, which arrived at their front door in Irvine, Scotland, just 12 hours later.
But it wasn’t until he had rolled it out and got to work that Pauline’s suspicions were raised and she realised he had, in fact, purchased a cheap green carpet, Daily Record reports.
The mum says she was left in stitches by his failure to notice, despite the surface being “rough as sandpaper” and Pauline fearing someone would “lose half a leg” if they fell over on it.
The 54-year-old said: “I don’t have the heart to tell him to lift it, he was so pleased with himself until he saw my face.
“He said it will look fine once he makes a set of wooden toadstools and a table and buys a dozen gnomes from Poundland.
“It’s listed as AstroTurf, but it’s not. No grass is that shade and it’s as rough as sandpaper.”
Pauline said Andy is now joking that he plans to transform their garden into a golf putting green, claiming he’s ordered three holes and some six-foot flags to finish it off.
She said her husband “loves a wee bargain” but he had probably left the company “jumping around the warehouse laughing that some mug had finally ordered it” and sent it out in record time so it couldn’t be cancelled.
Sharing the hilarious mix-up on Facebook, Pauline wrote: “When your husband tells you he’s going to lay a wee bit of astro turf at the front door then proceeds to lay down a giant bright green carpet instead.
“Sorry neighbours but feel free to come over for a game of bowls.”
