Comparison of rates in the general market and Ramadan bazaar

FAISALABAD: On the directions of the Punjab government, basic necessities are available to the consumers in the cheapest rate in Ramadan bazaars even less than  the official market prices. In the Ramzan Bazars basin, lemon, dates, tomatoes, Gram pulse and other items are being sold at lower prices till 60 rupees.

This was stated by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali while visiting various Ramadan bazaars of the city and reviewing the availability, quality and prices of the items. Deputy Commissioner went Riaz Shahid Chowk Islam nagar, Millat Road near Star Petroleum, Akbar Chowk Gulistan Colony and other bazaars and checked the availability of items at fruit, vegetable, grocery, flour, sugar, meat, poultry and other stalls and urged the stall holders to highlight the prices of the general markets along with the prices of Ramadan bazaars, so the consumers could be known about the difference of prices.

Comparing the government rates in the general market and the prices of some essential commodities in the Ramadan bazaars, he said that basin is being sold at Rs 130 per kg in the general market and Rs 98 per kg in the Ramadan bazaar.like wise the price of one kg lemon is Rs 245 in the open market and Rs 185 in Ramadan bazaars, Gram pulse Rs 125 and Rs 94, Iranian date Rs 225 and Rs 170 per kg, tomatoes Rs 53 and Rs 40 per kg, lehsen Rs 95 and 70, guava Rs 80 and 60 Rs, Apple are being sold at Rs 160 and Rs 120 per kg, banana at Rs 140 and Rs 105, potatoes at Rs 44 and Rs 33 and onions at Rs 23 per kg in the general market and Rs 17 per kg in Ramadan bazaars.

The Deputy Commissioner urged the in-charges of Ramadan bazaars that only standard essentials should be sold. He reviewed the process of sale at sugar stalls and said that the official price of sugar in general market is Rs 84 while in Ramadan bazaars it is Rs 65 per kg. He called for further improvement in the arrangements at Millat Road Ramzan Bazaar and said that the in-charges should be present in the bazaars till the end of the day to monitor all the arrangements and there should be no shortage of anything. He also talked to the buyers and inquired from them about the arrangements for Ramadan bazaars. Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Fazal Rabi Cheema and other officers were also present.
