Six Big Asteroids To Brush Past Earth Today
NASA’s Center for Near Earth Object Studies reported that six pieces of space rock will be passing by our planet today, 20th Jan., when the US celebrates Inauguration Day — the day when the new president-elect is vested with the powers of his office.
No less than eight asteroids will fly by our planet within 24 hours of the time President-elect Biden is to be sworn in Wednesday, according to NASA’s official catalog. And there’s always the chance we’ll discover a new asteroid or two as they make a close approach that day.
But does all this space traffic portend some sort of catastrophe ordained by the gods or perhaps foreseen by Nostradamus? I don’t know, but I do know that during a similar 48-hour period no less than 14 asteroids made close approaches by Earth.
The largest “close approach” object passing by on Inauguration Day is upwards of 93 meters in width. In comparison, the Statue of Liberty is 93 meters tall.
Inauguration Day happens to be the day the Oval Office transitions from President Donald Trump to former vice president and current President-elect Joe Biden. At one point last year, former Israeli space head Haim Eshed claimed Trump not only knew about the existence of aliens, but also suggested his administration was part of a real-life Galactic Federation.
