Shahid Khaqan warns the government against threatening to impose Article 6.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the senior leader of the -Nawaz (PML-N) and former prime minister, hit out on Saturday at federal ministers for urging that opposition leaders be charged with treason under Article 6 of the constitution.
In an interview with the media in Islamabad, he stated that the federal ministers who proposed imposing Article 6 [of the constitution] on opposition members would be the first to testify against [Prime Minister] Imran Khan.
Article 6 would be imposed on ministers if they attempted to obstruct the no-confidence vote, according to Shahid Khaqan.
He urged the prime minister to confront the no-confidence vote in a democratic manner and to resign if he loses.
The ex-premier, criticising Usman Buzdar’s dismissal as Punjab’s chief minister, claimed the province has lost the’most intriguing’ chief minister in its history.
He stated that any interference in the parliamentary procedure tomorrow would be the responsibility of the interior minister and the Islamabad administration.
He also encouraged the government of the capital city to follow the constitution and the law because they are the state’s employees, not Imran Khan’s.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid had earlier in the day pushed the establishment to intervene and call for early elections, claiming that the country was on the verge of anarchy.
According to the minister, the establishment’s action was necessary to avoid a conflict in the county.
“There are just four choices left,” he stated, “including the conduct of early elections.”
