PPP leader fears that an emergency or governor’s rule may be implemented in Punjab.
Syed Hassan Murtaza, the Central Punjab General Secretary of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and a member of Parliament, expressed concern on Monday that the government could declare an emergency or impose governor rule in Punjab in order to sabotage the election for the new leader of the House, which is set to take place on April 6 in the Punjab Assembly.
Makhdoom Usman Mahmood, Mumtaz Chang, Shazia Abid, and Raees Nabeel, all members of the Punjab Assembly, spoke during a press conference. Shahzad Saeed Cheema, Faiza Malik, Ahsan Rizvi, Afraz Naqvi, and Sajjad Nazir, Secretary of Information, were also present.
Elections, according to Murtaza, will be pointless until reforms are implemented.
He further stated that the PPP and opposition parties will not accept elections under Imran Khan, adding that the PPP and opposition parties believe Imran Khan to be the elected Prime Minister, and that writing him Prime Minister after the dissolution of the National Assembly is unconstitutional.
Murtaza urged that Prime Minister Imran Khan and all individuals participating in the “plot” against the country, including President Arif Alvi, the speaker and deputy speaker, be charged with high treason and tried under Article 6 of the Constitution.
He stated categorically that the PPP will not support any act that is unconstitutional. He cautioned that anyone found guilty of wrongdoing with the country or against the Constitution would be prosecuted.
He called Imran Khan’s appointment of governors of Punjab and Sindh unlawful because he is no longer Prime Minister.
He questioned why they thanked the American representative on March 16 if a letter received on March 7 was against the country’s national security.
He went on to say that on March 8, a resolution of no confidence was filed against the Prime Minister.
He claimed Imran Khan was to blame for the parliament’s abrogation of the constitution.
In response to media questioning, Murtaza stated that today is April 4, the death anniversary of PPP founder and former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, and that the courts have the power to remove the black spot on their faces.
