Hackers have targeted the Facebook accounts of Ukrainian military, according to Meta
Meta (FB), the parent company of Facebook, disclosed a slew of questionable cyber methods that it claims Russian and Belarusian-linked organisations are employing against Ukrainian forces and civilians on Thursday.
According to Meta, the groups’ tactics include acting as journalists and independent news outlets online to spread Russian talking points, attempting to hack dozens of Ukrainian soldiers’ Facebook accounts, and organising coordinated attempts to erase posts by Russian opponents from social media.
According to Meta, a hacker gang known as “Ghostwriter” attempted to get into the Facebook accounts of dozens of Ukrainian military officers, which cyber specialists suspect is tied to Belarus.
In “a number of cases,” the hackers were successful.
