The NA is ready to pick Pakistan’s 23rd Prime Minister
ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly is scheduled to pick a new Prime Minister today (Monday), following the ouster of previous Prime Minister Imran Khan in a no-confidence vote on Sunday.
Shehbaz Sharif, the head of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and former Foreign Minister, have both filed candidacy papers for the top position.
Despite being a nominee in a high-profile money laundering case, Shehbaz Sharif appears to be a formidable candidate for Pakistan’s next prime minister.
The session will begin at 2 p.m., with a two-point agenda, under the supervision of panel head Ayaz Sadiq.
The House Leader will be chosen via a vote held in two NA lobbies set aside for the occasion.
Following the completion of the voting procedure, the votes will be counted, and the Speaker will proclaim the winner.
