Residents in Mexico City are outraged
Thousands of unused gas cylinders were left outside in the sun at a defunct refinery in Mexico, resulting in a horrible odour that neighbours claim has made their lives a living hell.
Cesar Rivera, a 37-year-old web programmer, told AFP that he and his wife leave their flat every night because the odour is too strong.
“The scent is so strong at night that it’s as if the burner isn’t properly turned off,” he added.
The pair is also concerned that the liquefied petroleum gas seeping from the cylinders — which are common in Mexico City — may create an explosion or make them sick.
“The building administration has requested that we do not smoke or use tobacco products.”
