Shehbaz Sharif rejected a proposal to raise the price of gasoline.

Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, has rejected the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority’s (OGRA) plan to raise petroleum product prices in the country.

The decision was announced on Twitter by the PML-economy N’s account.

As of now, there will be no change in the price of petroleum products, according to the premier, who has stated that the government will bear the weight of the increase in gasoline prices rather than moving it to the people.

The OGRA had previously proposed to the Finance Division that the price of petrol be increased by Rs21.50 and that the price of diesel be increased by Rs51.30 (based on the existing/current petroleum levy and GST).

On February 28, former Prime Minister Imran Khan promised a Rs10 per liter cut in petrol and diesel prices, as well as a price freeze until the budget for 2022-23 is revealed.

The OGRA proposed an increase of Rs83.50 per liter of petrol and Rs119.88 per liter of diesel (based on the federal government’s recommended petroleum charge of Rs30 and 17 percent GST), according to the proposal.

It’s worth noting that the current fuel price in Pakistan is Rs149.86, while diesel is Rs144.15, both with a 0% levy and GST.
