The electricity shortage has reached 6,000 megawatts (MW).

Pakistan’s electricity gap has been estimated at 6,000 megawatts (MW), with the country producing 15,500MW against a demand of 21,500MW.

Hydel power plants were generating 1,000MW, governmental thermal power plants 2,500MW, and private sector power plants 12,000MW, according to Ministry of Energy sources, with a total power generation capacity of 33,000MW.

They said that the system was losing Rs10 billion per day owing to low production, and that power outages of up to 10 hours per day were occurring across the country. They went on to say that even after the shutdown, some power facilities were still getting capacity payments.

The issue’s breakdown was also revealed.

According to an official document, the 525MW Nandi Power Plant has been closed since December 13, 2021, while the 840MW Muzzafargarh Power Plant has been closed since April 8, 2022, the 621MW Port Qasim Power Plant has been closed since March 31, 2022, the 447MW Guddu Power Plant has been closed since February 12, 2021, the 245MW Muzzafargarh Power Plant has been closed since July 1, 2021, the 620MW Thar Coal Power Plant

Some of these power plants were forced to close due to a scarcity of fuel, while others were forced to close due to technical difficulties.

Furthermore, a conference was called at the offices of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority to discuss the ongoing load.
