Who will be Pakistan’s next minister of health?
Because the PML-coalition N’s partners aren’t interested in the Federal Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination (NHSR&C) because of its limited scope, PML-N officials said on Friday that the party leadership may appoint one of its MNAs or senators to lead the federal health ministry.
“The Federal Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination (NHS,R&C) is not a very attractive ministry after devolution, and it was run by two non-elected technocrats during the previous tenure — initially by Dr. Zafar Mirza and later by Dr.Faisal Sultan as special assistant to the prime minister (SAPM) on health,” a senior political figure in the newly formed coalition government said.
Because the PPP and other coalition partners were not interested in leading the health ministry, the PML-N leadership could appoint any of their MNAs or senators to manage the national health ministry, according to the senior politician.
Senator Dr. Musadik Malik of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has a PhD in Health Policy, Economics, and Medical Decision Making and could be a good choice for the position, according to the political leader. “The PML-N senator has also headed the ministry of water and power in the past.”
Dr. Malik called his selection as federal health minister “rumors” in an interview with The News, claiming that the PM Shahbaz Sharif-led government was a coalition government and that the PML-N could not make unilateral decisions about any ministry.
