ENGLAND’s Jack Leach was forced off against New Zealand with a concussion and will miss the remainder of the Test.
In the morning session of the first day of the Lord’s test, the spin bowler, 30, landed awkwardly on his head while attempting to stop the ball from reaching the boundary.
England has called up Lancashire leg-spinner Matt Parkinson, who will make his Test debut, as a concussion replacement.
The incident happened in the sixth over, when England was off to a great start, taking five wickets for just 22 runs at one point.
Jimmy Anderson took two wickets, dismissing two batters.
The 23-year-day old’s was made even better when he bowled Daryl Mitchell soon after, putting England in command early on.
Potts was on cloud nine minutes later when he got his third wicket, dismissing Tom Blundell.
New captain Ben Stokes, as well as the selectors who chose Durham star Potts, will be pleased with his team’s start.
The ECB was chastised for ticket prices that left a number of seats unsold, but those who attended certainly got their money’s worth.
Prior to the game, Stokes stated that he wanted his teammates to pay with freedom, and the carefree attitude of youngster Potts is already paying dividends.
