The first UK homes with NO energy bills are being manufactured.

Air source heat pumps, solar panels, and battery storage technology will be included in the homes. The price cap is expected to reach £2,900 next month, which could be good news for residents.

The first UK homes with zero energy bills are being launched as part of a new trial to transition households away from fossil fuels.

Octopus Energy announced today that it has partnered with housebuilder Ilke Homes to develop the renewable home scheme.

It comes as energy bills are expected to rise to £2,800 this year and £2,900 the following year.

Air source heat will be installed in the homes.

However, while low-carbon technologies will save households money in the long run, buyers will have to pay an additional £8,000 to £9,000 when purchasing a new home.

According to Octopus and Ilke, each “zero bills” household will save more than £2,000 per year on energy costs based on current prices. It is unclear when prices will begin to fall again.

The homes will also be outfitted with battery technology to store any excess green electricity generated by the solar panels. The home will be able to store this energy for later use by using a battery.

If the solar panels do not produce enough energy, the homes can still use it without incurring additional costs. The project is being piloted by the companies.
