An explosion rocks Kabul’s Sikh temple.
Following an explosion at a Sikh temple in Kabul, there are concerns for the safety of dozens of worshippers.
The explosion occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, and it is unknown if anyone was injured.
According to Gornam Singh, a local official on the scene, there were up to “30 people inside the temple” at the time of the blast.
“We don’t know how many are alive or how many are dead,” he explained.
“The Taliban aren’t letting us in, and we’re at a loss for what to do,” Mr Singh added.
Tolo, a local broadcaster, aired footage of heavy grey plumes of smoke rising from the volcano.
The temple is the capital’s last remaining Sikh temple, and community leaders recently estimated that only 140 Sikhs remain in predominantly Muslim Afghanistan, down from 100,000 in the 1970s.
The assault is the city’s latest since the Taliban reclaimed control of Afghanistan last year.
More than 20 people were killed and 16 others were injured in a gun and bomb attack on a military hospital in the city in December.
In April, a grenade was thrown into a mosque, injuring six people. That attack was claimed by the Islamic State of Khorasan Province (ISIS-K).
