PDMA Punjab issues heatwave fuidelines as temperatures set to soar

Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued comprehensive guidelines to relevant departments across the province.

The directives come amid forecasts predicting a rise in temperature by 4 to 7 degrees Celsius this month.

According to Director General PDMA, major cities, plains, and particularly districts in South Punjab are likely to be affected by extreme heat. He has instructed all district administrations to remain on high alert and prepare for any emergency situations.

Deputy commissioners have been directed to ensure the availability of heatwave protection facilities at public places. The PDMA has also advised using print, electronic, and social media to raise public awareness about the dangers of the heatwave.

In a preventive move, the School Education Department has been instructed to suspend all outdoor activities for children during peak heat hours. Farmers are to be educated on the potential impacts of the heatwave on crops, while awareness banners are to be placed at bus stands and railway stations.
