Punjab to launch first e-bike rental service
The Punjab government has decided to introduce a modern e-bike rental service in Lahore for the first time, marking an important step toward eco-friendly public transport and cleaner urban mobility.
Under the first phase of the project, 10,000 electric bikes will be launched across the city, while 300 docking and charging stations will also be established.
The project is being introduced as part of the Punjab government’s efforts to promote environment-friendly travel in the provincial capital.
The service is expected to provide citizens with a low-cost and modern transport option, especially for students, employees and ordinary commuters.
10,000 e-bikes, 300 stations in first phase
According to the project plan, Lahore will receive 10,000 e-bikes in the first phase. A total of 300 docking stations will be established in different parts of the city to support the rental service.
The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) will provide space for docking and charging stations.
The e-bike service will help citizens travel from important residential and commercial areas to nearby public transport stations.
Officials said the project will improve last-mile connectivity and make daily commuting easier for people who depend on buses, trains and other public transport options.
Mobile app-based rental system
Citizens will be able to rent e-bikes through a mobile application. The app-based system is expected to make the service more accessible, user-friendly and convenient for daily commuters.
Several institutions will be part of the project, including LePark, the Transport Department, Safe City and other relevant departments.
Officials said suitable sites will be selected for docking stations in different areas of Lahore to ensure smooth access and wider coverage.
