A group of women have been arrested after they were filmed posing naked on a balcony in Dubai.
Footage shows more than a dozen women on the balcony in a skyscraper which is believed to have been filmed by a man in a building next door.
Police in Dubai said they arrested a “group of people who appeared in an indecent video”.
They could face public debauchery charges.
Videos and photographs emerged on social media on Saturday evening that shows the naked women lined up on a balcony while being filmed in the city’s upmarket Marina neighbourhood.
State-linked newspaper The National reported it appeared to be some sort of publicity stunt.
But the ‘stunt’ will have backfired as acts in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) like kissing in public or drinking alcohol without a licence has resulted in people being jailed.
The arrested women could face up to six months in prison and a fine of around £1,000 for breaking public decency laws which includes nudity and other lewd behaviour in the UAE.
Dubai police said those arrested have been referred to public prosecutors.
A statement said: “Such unacceptable behaviours do not reflect the values and ethics of Emirati society.”
The sharing of pornographic material, which the video could be seen as, could also result in a spell in prison and hefty fines under the country’s laws, which are based on the Islamic Shariah law. or Shariah.
The UAE has strict laws governing expression and social media with people being thrown in jail for making comments online or uploading video that fall foul.
The country’s majority state-owned telecom companies has blocked access to major pornographic websites.
Dubai also has draconian social media laws that make it an offence to insult others.
