Nehemiah Persoff, an American tail actor, died at the age of 102

Nehemiah Persoff, who starred in films such as Some Like It Hot, Gunsmoke, An American Tail, and others, died at the age of 102, according to several sources.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Persoff’s son Dan confirmed his father’s death, while a family acquaintance verified the news to Deadline. The actor died Tuesday in a rehabilitation centre in San Luis Obispo, Calif., according to both sites.

According to THR, Persoff was born in Jerusalem in August 1919. After demonstrating his acting abilities during his bar mitzvah, the late actor spent several summers working in theatre before breaking into the film and television industry.

Between 1949 and 1959, Persoff featured in 11 Broadway productions, including Galileo, starring Charles Laughton, Peter Pan, starring Jean Arthur and Boris Karloff, and Peer Gynt, starring John Garfield.

Persoff’s first film credit was for a minor role in The Naked City in 1948, and his second was for another small role in On the Waterfront in 1954. Persoff starred in three films in 1956, one of which being Alfred Hitchcock’s The Wrong Man.
