The Pakistan Media Development Authority abolished by the government.
Marriyum Aurangzeb, the Federal Information Minister, announced the abolition of the Pakistan Media Development Authority (PMDA) on Tuesday, calling it a controversial agency that suppressed the media’s voice.
She told the media in Islamabad that freedom of expression is a right that every Pakistani has and that it will not be restricted.
PMDA, in any form, has been abolished, she said, adding that there will be no alternative authority to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
All stakeholders will be consulted on the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 Ordinance 2016, according to Marriyum.
The minister said he would not seek vengeance against any political foe.
