A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan.
According to the US Geological Survey, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Taiwan on Monday afternoon, causing buildings in the capital Taipei to shake.
According to the meteorological bureau, the quake struck at a depth of 27.5 kilometers (17.1 miles) off Taiwan’s east coast, about halfway between Hualien County’s beach and the southern Japanese island of Yonaguni.
According to the report, the earthquake was felt throughout Taiwan.
Taiwan is vulnerable to earthquakes due to its location at the intersection of two tectonic plates.
In 2016, a quake in southern Taiwan killed over 100 people, whereas a 7.3 magnitude quake in 1999 killed over 2,000 people.
