FM Bilawal Bhutto will make his first public appearance.
According to the Foreign Office, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari will fly to China on a two-day official visit tomorrow at the request of State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Bilawal’s travel, scheduled for May 21-22, will be his first bilateral trip abroad since taking office last month.
According to a Foreign Office statement, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar and senior officials will join the foreign minister’s trip.
During his visit, Bilawal will meet with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in-depth. “The two leaders will evaluate the entire scope of bilateral relations, with a particular emphasis on increased trade and investment.”
The revolutionary China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and the centerpiece project of President Xi Jinping’s grandiose Belt and Road Initiative will also be discussed. The two sides will also engage in a wide-ranging discussion of significant regional and international issues.
“Foreign Minister Bilawal’s visit will also coincide with the 71st anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations,” the statement said.
State Councilor Wang Yi had written Bilawal a letter of congratulations on his appointment as FM. The two foreign ministers previously met virtually on May 11.
The foreign minister’s visit is part of the high-level exchanges between the two countries, which recently included a letter of congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
