India expels a bureaucrat pair after a scandal over a stadium’s early closure for the purpose of “walking dogs”
According to reports, an Indian bureaucrat couple was moved from one end of the nation to another Thursday after a media story said that they had forced a sports stadium in Delhi to close early so that they could walk their dog.
One of India’s top bureaucrats in its Delhi state government has been relocated to Arunachal Pradesh and his secretary wife Rinku Dugga has been sent to Ladakh by an official order from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
New posts in the Himalayas are 3,200 miles apart.
sportsmen said that they were compelled to end training early to make room for Khirwar and Dugga’s nightly stroll after seeing them strolling their dog on the stadium track, as shown in an Indian Express story.
He said he “occasionally” took his pet for a stroll at the stadium, but disputed that it interfered with players’ practising routines.
Khirwar and Dugga could not be reached for comment by Reuters.
Politicians and internet users alike were outraged by an article published by the Indian Express.
When athletes have to stop training early because a government worker has a dog to walk, it’s a weird abuse of authority. “Pathetic!” said Congress party member Gaurav Pandhi on Twitter.
