Vladimir Putin labels a military scarcity as “catastrophic”.
According to Ukraine’s military, over 30,000 Russian soldiers have been killed in the conflict so far, with the bodies of 6,000 troops left in the field.
Russia is running out of troops and military equipment as Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine is still regarded as the “biggest disaster” in modern warfare by experts.
It has not been 100 days since Russian troops crossed the border into Ukraine for what the government described as a “special military operation.”
Since then, Russia has suffered crippling military losses as Ukraine’s forces valiantly defended their homeland, aided by cutting-edge military equipment provided by Western nations actively opposing Russia.
As a result of his decision to invade, Putin has faced a massive international backlash and lethal economic sanctions.
Experts say that, with the war now primarily focused in eastern Ukraine following a Russian pullback in April, Putin’s miscalculations continue, with Russian forces now dangerously short on personnel and equipment.
According to Swedish economist and Russia expert Anders Aslund, the conflict has reached a “state of attrition.”
“At the 100-day mark, the war is at a stalemate,” Aslund. Ukraine has all the soldiers it needs and can mobilize up to one million men. Russia, on the other hand, is suffering from a soldier shortage. Putin cannot legally send in conscripts because this is not technically a war.
