Michael Mosley has an unusual tip that may help you get a full night’s rest if you wake up in the middle of the night.

On the Newscast podcast, Michael Mosley recently spoke with Dan Walker and political reporter Adam Fleming about Walker’s chaotic sleep routine.

According to Dr. Mosley, the best thing to do if you’re tossing and turning in bed and can’t sleep is to get out of bed.

He elaborated: “The general advice is the 15-minute rule. If you are still awake after 15 minutes, get out of bed and do something boring until you feel sleepy, then return to bed.” The rule is to associate bed with only sleep and sex. There will be no Twitter.

In response to Walker’s claim that he was high functioning despite sleeping “no more than 24 hours over the course of the week,” Mosley said, “I would say you’re massively deluded.” People believe they are fine, but they are not.”

Dr. Michael Mosley has three more sleep tips to help us get a good night’s sleep.

Purchase an eye mask.

Dr. Mosley recommends wearing an eye mask to protect your eyes. This is especially useful in the summer, when people sleep 25 minutes less on average due to bright mornings. “I’d recommend getting a pair of eye shades, not very sexy in bed,” he said. You are awakened by the early morning light.
