RSCPA settles the debate whether to give ice cubes to dogs during heat wave.

Dog owners have been sharing tips on how to keep their pets cool during a heat wave, but some of their suggestions have been met with scepticism from veterinarians.

Dog owners are being urged to keep their dogs hydrated in the heat as temperatures in parts of the UK reach 32 degrees Celsius.

Dogs can suffer from heatstroke in minutes and must have their body temperature gradually reduced to have the best chance of survival.

Owners have been sharing how they give their dogs ice cubes to help cool them down during the summer months, but vet professionals have been sceptical.

Some people believe that giving dogs ice cream is a good idea.

We consulted experts to find out the truth, and the RSPCA says that giving ice to dogs is fine, and even suggests giving pups frozen treats to keep their temperatures down.

The RSPCA recommends freezing a dog’s water bowl or kong before filling it with water or fresh treats (to help keep them cool for longer).

“We also recommend putting ice cubes in your pet’s water or making frozen treats to help cool them down,” an animal rescue charity spokesperson told.

Some veterinarians believe that ice can cause tooth damage in dogs, so keep an eye on them while they eat.
