Punjab to build storage tanks in flood-prone areas for better water management
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a critical meeting to evaluate strategies for addressing urban flooding and river erosion in the province.
She stressed the need for a comprehensive flooding plan to protect public safety and infrastructure.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister gave in-principle approval for purchasing modern machinery to combat urban flooding and directed the cleaning of floodways under motorways, highways, and railway tracks.
She also approved a plan to lower green belt levels to ensure effective drainage of rainwater from roads.
Maryam Nawaz highlighted the urgency of rehabilitating and improving the sewage system, particularly in cities where roads are frequently submerged during heavy rains.
She emphasized that the suffering of citizens should guide prioritization efforts.
