Jet2 flight bound for the UK was forced to land in Portugal.

After a passenger became disruptive, tourists returning from Gran Canaria were forced to make an emergency landing in Portugal.

A Jet2 flight bound for Newcastle Airport had to make an emergency landing in Porto, 1,100 miles distant from its UK destination, so that a passenger could be removed.

As a result of the airline’s “zero tolerance” policy, flight LS542 was diverted.

“We can confirm that flight LS542 from Gran Canaria to Newcastle was diverted to Porto this morning in order to unload a disruptive passenger,” Jet2 said.

We adopt a zero-tolerance policy to disruptive behavior as a family-friendly airline.

We shall not hesitate to pursue any charges incurred as a result of this.

Passengers on board the plane said they were stranded in Portugal as a result of a “very, very, very inebriated” man’s rant.

“He wouldn’t sit down or shut his mouth,” one remarked.

“He was arguing, swearing, and kicking the air stewardess,” another said, adding that the man was “very, very drunk” and refused to sit down.

Last week, the no-nonsense airline slapped a pair of brothers with a £50,000 bill and barred them from flying for the rest of their lives.

During the journey from Stansted to Crete, Alfie and Kenneth Springthorpe, from Sidcup in southeast London, “displayed a catalogue of horrible behavior,” according to the airline.
