Inside a filthy flat where four children were raised among “rubbish piles and rats.”

A man and woman have been arrested in connection with the “horrendous” condition of an apartment in which four children were residing, with mountains of trash and rats darting around.

Due to the unpleasant odour emanating from the flat in Bexar County, Texas, police were called.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar stated that the smell was so awful that authorities expected to find a body, but instead found bags of garbage containing rotting food, insects, and faeces.

According to Sheriff Salazar, it was one of the worst child endangerment scenes he had ever seen, with rats running over their feet while they investigated the incident.

An eight-year-old girl reportedly misses school on a regular basis owing to headaches.

Sheriff Salazar stated during a press conference that the conditions in the flat were “horrendous,” and that while the children did not appear to be starving, the situation of the home endangered their lives.

Salazar stated, “There were mosquitoes and actually rodents crawling over the detective’s foot.” “We couldn’t figure out how the kids could have survived in these conditions for so long.”
