Politicians’ imprudent remarks on Lt Gen Faiz Hameed are “extremely inappropriate.
The military’s media affairs wing stated in a statement that the Peshawar Corps was an “illustrious formation” of the army that had been leading the national war on terrorism for more than two decades.
“The command of this famous formation has been assigned to one of the most capable and professional officers. Important top politicians’ recent imprudent remarks criticizing [the] Peshawar Corps commander are highly unacceptable “According to the ISPR.
It went on to say that such utterances harmed the institution’s honour and morale, as well as its leadership.
The statement ended, “It is expected that the country’s senior political leadership refrains from making unacceptable remarks against the institution, whose courageous officers and men are continually putting their lives on the line to protect Pakistan’s integrity and sovereignty.”
While the statement did not mention any specific politicians, it comes just one day after PPP co-chair Asif Ali Zadari and PML-Maryam N’s Nawaz made remarks regarding Lt Gen Hameed, who served as the Inter-Services Intelligence chief from June 16, 2019 to October 19, 2021.
“The hapless Faiz Hameed has been marginalized,” Zardari said at a news conference in Karachi on Wednesday when questioned about Lt Gen Hameed. He then clarified that he had “unintentionally” said something.
