Cholera cases have surpassed 2,500 in Dera Bugti’s Pirkoh district.
On Saturday, a protest was held in the Pirkoh tehsil of Dera Bugti district over a shortage of safe drinking water and an alarming spike in the number of cholera cases, which have already reached 2,577, according to a health official.
Dr Azam Bugti, the DHO of Dera Bugti, informed that 210 new cholera cases were recorded today, as well as two more deaths, bringing the overall death toll to six, including two youngsters. He stated that 15 individuals were critically ill.
The first cholera case was reported on April 17, according to DHO Bugti, and there were 1,500 cases at the time.
Locals demonstrated today over the lack of potable water.
Residents also disputed the DHO’s death toll, alleging that 20 people had died and more 3,200 had become ill as a result of the contagious disease.
Senator Sarfraz Bugti called on authorities to declare an emergency in Pirkoh, assess the situation, and provide assistance to those in need, as well as finish water delivery projects.
