A frail old woman is confined inside a “rotting” hellhole of a house.
The dismal property in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, also lacks hot water, and when the toilet is flushed, it pours onto the stairway.
The walls are covered in black mould, the pink toilet is lacking a seat, and the roof is leaking.
If that wasn’t awful enough, she doesn’t have anywhere to wash, and the wet is destroying the joints.
There’s also the issue of vermin.
In a frantic attempt to find a method for her home to be renovated, photos of the woman’s living conditions were released.
Focus4Hope, a Brighouse charity that supports “those who need it most,” tweeted the horrifying photographs, calling it “one of the hardest posts they have ever had to do.”
It is hoped that the photos will draw attention to her condition and assist in finding her a place to stay while her home is being repaired.
The charity stated they had found a company to conduct the work but needed assistance after exhausting all other options for finding her lodging while the repairs were underway.
It stated that it had contacted the council and health services, but that it was having difficulty because the woman owned her own home.
The charity’s representative said: “”This is one of the most difficult articles we’ve ever had to write… we’re helping a really vulnerable elderly lady who, sadly, lives in squalor.” There is no running hot water, no heat, and her toilet leaks onto the stairwell when flushed “There are no washing machines or a functioning kitchen, and the walls are all damp. The roof is leaking, and the humidity has caused the joints to deteriorate. She’s infested with vermin.”
They continued: “We require your assistance. We have a fantastic company that has agreed to renovate her home, but we are unable to provide her with any relief while the repairs are being completed. We require a month’s respite in a tiny flat/bedsit that we will share with her in order to complete our work.
